Tiago is directing IGL’s research programme. He supports governments in making data-driven decisions, consolidating the skills and experiences of computer scientists, social scientists and public administration experts.

Tiago masters in big data analytics, automated text analysis and quantitative methods. His main research interests are political communication, media effects, online campaigning but also European integration and governance. In the past years, he has been involved in several projects analysing European elections, their news media coverage and the political parties’ campaigns. As an academic fellow at UNU-EGOV, he has been studying governments’ use of digital technologies.

He holds a PhD in political and social sciences from the European University Institute, analysing the differences in the electoral campaigns of political parties at the traditional media news coverage and social media. He has a bachelor degree in Public Administration and a master degree in Political Science, both from the University of Aveiro. Tiago is currently a post-doctoral researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon.
